Hubbell Multi-Range Voltage Detector
Hubbell Multi-Range Voltage Detector
The Multi-Range Voltage Detector (MRVD) is essential for confirming a line is de-energized before maintenance. Acting as a field intensity meter, it reads approximate line-to-line voltage when connected to any phase conductor. It detects the field gradient between its end probe and floating electrode, showing higher readings near other voltage sources and lower near the same phase equipment.
The MRVD distinguishes actual line voltage from static or feed over from adjacent lines, providing numerical certainty over subjective methods like “fuzz-sticking.” Not a precise voltmeter, it offers practical voltage range readings. It requires mounting on a hot stick appropriate for the voltage class and includes detailed, illustrated instructions.
