Utility Solutions URD Cap Stand™ – Portable Insulated Cap Holder – USUC-001
The patent-pending URD Cap Stand™ attaches to the lip of underground pad mount transformers and switchgear to securely hold insulated caps. It safely stores insulated caps that are accessible using a shotgun stick so workers remain outside their minimum approach distance (MAD) and caps stay clean.
Lineworkers often use a glove bag, the ground, or another worker when removing and installing protective caps. Caps can become contaminated and compromise the loadbreak elbow connection. The machined URD Cap Stand™ is made from a high-visibility yellow polymer that cradles the lip of padgear. Adjustable legs can adapt to any size lip up to 2 inches thick. Smooth plastic arms securely hold insulating caps up to 38kV.
The URD Cap Stand™ has a standard shotgun eye (USUC-002 only) and can be installed and removed “loaded” with loadbreak caps. The unique cradle design allows it to slide left or right to stay clear of underground cable.
